Site information
Privacy & terms
UCR Business Events (the "Site") is an independent student project and is not an official page of UC Riverside. This page describes the information the Site collects and handles, the terms governing its use, and how to contact its maintainer. Last updated October 29, 2026.
Privacy policy
Information the Site collects
The Site operates without user accounts, comment forms, or first-party cookies. The only information the Site records on its own behalf is a set of aggregate interaction tallies. When a visitor expands an event's details, selects a sign-up link, an RSVP preview, the submit-an-event button, or an add-to-calendar option, the Site increments a single tally associated with that event's name. Where a visit arrives through a link carrying a channel tag (for example, ?utm_source=instagram), the tally records that tag as well. Tallies are stored and read exclusively as totals. They do not store a visitor identifier or link actions into an individual browsing history. Their sole purpose is to indicate which events students find useful.
The visitor's theme preference (light or dark) and the dismissal state of the events prompt are stored on the visitor's device using local storage. The prompt dismissal record is treated as expired after 30 days; the theme preference remains until changed or cleared. The Site also uses session storage to remember an event's name and calendar links when a visitor follows a sign-up link, and local storage for the associated calendar-prompt dismissal state. These browser storage records are not transmitted to the Site's servers. Session storage is temporary; local storage remains until cleared unless an expiry is stated above.
Home Screen and Dock web app
Adding the Site to your Home Screen or Mac Dock opens the same website in an app-style window. The Site does not add any new data collection for this mode; the analytics, forms, and browser storage described in this policy still apply. Browser-managed storage can be cleared through your browser or device settings.
To show the appropriate Home Screen or Dock instructions, the Site checks browser-provided platform and display-mode signals on your device. This best-effort check does not save a device classification or send it to the Site's servers. It is separate from the aggregate device and browser analytics described below. On Mac, Safari web apps keep website data and settings separate from Safari, so preferences may need to be set again in the web app.
The current web app has no offline mode or push notifications and does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, or contacts. An internet connection is needed to load the Site and use its online features.
"Help shape this list" responses
The "Help shape this list" panel invites visitors to share their year, their major, the kinds of events they want, the times that suit them, and how they found the Site. Every field is optional, and the panel requests no name, email address, or other identifying information. Responses are stored as individual anonymous records, are reviewed in aggregate (for example, second-year students requesting weekend workshops), and are permanently and automatically deleted no later than six months after submission. Responses are never published or sold, and they are disclosed only as combined totals, for instance in conversations with the School of Business.
Analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics)
The Site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure overall page views and visits. According to Cloudflare's documentation, this measurement is cookieless and does not track individual visitors: it uses no cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and does not collect personal information such as IP addresses for analytics purposes. It reports aggregate figures only, such as the number of visits a page received and the approximate sources of traffic, along with broad device types, browsers, and operating systems. These practices are Cloudflare's and are described in its Web Analytics documentation.
Time-based analytics
The maintainer reviews page-view and interaction counts grouped by hour to understand when the Site is used. Recorded request times are shown in Riverside time (America/Los_Angeles). The Site does not collect a visitor's local clock, timezone, precise location, or a persistent visitor identifier for this feature. The analytics dashboard and its JSON exports contain aggregate counts, not a visitor-by-visitor activity log. A timestamp can be personal information when linked to a person or other identifiers; this feature does not add that linkage. Recent hourly source data and older daily totals have different coverage, which the dashboard and exports explain.
Optional interactive maps
Maps load only after you choose "View location" on an event listing. Choosing "View location" connects your browser to OpenStreetMap and its map tile services, which receive your IP address and ordinary request information such as your browser details. These providers process that information under their own policies. The Site does not request your device location to show a venue map, and sends no form responses or contact details to the map provider. You can read the listing without loading a map. External campus-map and venue-directions links also open third-party services when selected. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Forms hosted by Tally
The "Submit your event" and "Preview: how RSVP would work" buttons lead to forms hosted by Tally (tally.so), a third-party form provider. Information entered into those forms, such as a name or email address, is transmitted to Tally and to the student maintainer of the Site - not to UC Riverside and not to any event organizer. The RSVP form is a demonstration only: it reserves no seat and is not transmitted to any organizer, and demonstration submissions may be deleted at any time. Event submissions are reviewed by the maintainer. Approved event details, event images, and any public image credits may be published in the event list. The submitter's private name and email are used to review the submission and reply to them, and are not published as contact fields. Submissions are not displayed to other respondents. Tally processes submitted data under its own privacy policy, available at tally.so.
Daily campus photographs
The privacy details below explain how photographs are delivered. Author credit, permissions, and edit notices are listed separately in the photo credits, licenses, and changes directory.
Campus photographs on the Calendar and How it works pages are served from this Site, not loaded from Wikimedia, Flickr, or another photo service as you browse. The daily selection is calculated in your browser from the current date in the America/Los_Angeles time zone and the page you are viewing. It uses no visitor identifier, location access, cookie, or saved browsing history. The two pages show different photographs and change them once per day.
Photo credits link to an on-site list of authors, original sources, licenses, and changes. Opening an external source or license link takes you to that provider, which handles your request under its own policies. The photographs are used under their stated licenses or public-domain releases; credit is not a claim of fair use or university endorsement. See Photo credits and licenses.
Hosting and technical processing
The Site is served by Cloudflare Workers. As with any web host, Cloudflare's servers process the technical data required to deliver pages to a visitor's browser, such as the visitor's IP address and browser type, at the time of each request. The Site itself does not log or retain this information. Cloudflare's handling of request data, including any retention, is governed by Cloudflare's own policies, which the Site does not control.
Correspondence
If a visitor submits a form or emails the maintainer, the message is used to respond and, in the case of an event submission, to review the event for listing. Correspondence is not sold, shared, or used for marketing. A submitter may request deletion of their submission at any time using the contact details below.
Data retention
"Help shape this list" responses are automatically and permanently deleted no later than six months after submission. Interaction tallies are retained only as aggregate totals. Form submissions held by the maintainer are retained as needed to keep the event list accurate and to correspond with submitters, and are deleted on request. Records kept in a visitor's browser local storage expire as described above or when the visitor clears their browser data.
Sharing and disclosure
The Site does not sell or rent personal information. Information is disclosed only (a) as combined, anonymous totals, as described above; (b) to the service providers named in this policy (Cloudflare, Tally, and the optional map providers described above), as necessary to operate the Site - each provider's handling of that data is governed by its own policies; and (c) where disclosure is required by law.
Security
The Site applies technical measures appropriate to the limited information it handles. Its own systems keep no records that identify visitors: the interaction tallies and the anonymous panel responses described above contain no identifiers. The Site is served over HTTPS, and access to stored responses is restricted to the maintainer. Information submitted through Tally forms, which may include a name or email address if the visitor provides one, is held by Tally and the maintainer as described above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and the Site cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Site is intended for university students and is not directed to children under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision, and the current version is always the one published at this address. Visitors are encouraged to review this page periodically.
Terms of use
The Site is a best-effort list of events of interest to UCR business students. By using the Site, visitors acknowledge and agree that:
- Event details may change or be inaccurate. Visitors should verify the time, place, and requirements of any event with its own organizer before attending.
- The Site is provided "as is," without any guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or availability.
- No button or form on the Site registers a visitor for any event or reserves a seat. Registration takes place solely with the organizer. The RSVP preview is a demonstration only.
- Submitting an event does not guarantee that it will be listed. Every submission is reviewed by hand.
Event ownership and trademarks
Every event listed belongs to its organizer, whether a club, a university office, or a company. Listing an event does not constitute an endorsement, and the Site does not speak for any organizer. "UC Riverside," "UCR," and related names and marks are the property of the Regents of the University of California. This independent student project is not sponsored or approved by the University and uses no University logos. All other names and marks are the property of their respective owners.
Contact and takedown
To report an error, request that an event be updated or removed, or raise a privacy question, email the maintainer at nirvanalwar@gmail.com. Organizers may request corrections or removal at the same address. Requests are handled promptly.
